Are You Considering Supplement Products?

I just watched a new video by the always energetic John Kohler of OK Raw. I really think John did a great overview on what supplements one may consider adding to their healthy fresh whole food diet, so I want to immediately share this video with you! I have to say that I totally agree with John's viewpoint of first getting what your body needs from fresh nutrient dense organic fruits and vegetables, and especially by juicing with dark leafy greens. That being said, sometimes we may need a bit of help with certain medical or body issues. Everyone is different and each person has to find out what extra nutrients they may need to supplement for their medical needs. So see your doctor for lab tests, and do your own research on the companies in the marketplace. You should get some tests done and a blood work up so you don't add too much of something you already have in abundance, or be negligent about something your body actually needs more than something else. We each are similar, and different in some aspects, and you can only know where you are at by getting the lab work. Also remember when adding supplements and vitamins that a product made directly from nature is best, before anything derived from chemicals. Read labels and investigate to be sure you are getting the highest quality.

Some supplements may be more beneficial than others, and there are some you should just avoid. Since there are times we may need to add some type of supplements to our diet due to our own medical starting point and nutritional situations, I feel John provides an excellent beginners overview of where to put your attention. Fresh veggies and fruits are always best, but when you need to supplement, consider the opinions John Kohler shares in this video below about the various products available in the marketplace. John discusses what to keep in mind, the difference between whole foods, bottled products, raw products, popular supplements, and a few personal body care products such as lotions, deodorant, and toothpaste.

I also recommend viewing the two videos below, made by Dr.Vincent Bellonzi, and Dr.Joel Fuhrman talking about this important subject. Most of my doctors recommended that I take certain vitamins and supplements in addition to my nutrient dense food choices. I always check with them to see what their opinion is about what item I have decided to add to address my body functions and diseases. With today's depleted soils we do not get the optimum nutrients that were available in the past from just our fruits and vegetables. Now we must consider the vitamin basics for everyone, and the supplements that help individuals with deficiencies.

Below  Dr. Joel Fuhrman talks about what to look for in a basic multivitamin supplement. Remember that everything you put into your body on a daily basis is important enough to do the proper research on its effects on you. If you are wondering what to add in addition to your healthy food, and juicing, watch all of these informational videos. Then talk with your doctor or nutritionist about your own thoughts about what may be best for your body issues.

Romanesco Soup... Not Just For Aliens!

To further our quest to try new foods, that crazy Romanesco had to be on the list! Look at that amazing veggie! With all those beautiful bright green swirling fractal shapes Romanesco looks like it came from an alien planet! Lucky for us, you can get it in many markets these days, so be brave and try something way cool!

During my second attempt at making a soup from this broccoli/cauliflower mix of a vegetable, I learned that "keep it simple" really is the best motto. This delicate flavored vegetable soup is just a mix of onions, Romenesco, and vegetable broth. So easy! The finished result is a very silky soup with an added simple complementary garnish of tomato pieces and romanesco. For other uses of Romanesco just steam, or eat it raw, as you would for any cauliflower or broccoli presentation. This fabulous veggie will be an attention getter for sure at your next get together, or event! Get creative!

Romanesco Soup

1 Head of Romanesco
1 - 2 large onions sliced or chopped
1 box (32 oz.) low sodium organic vegetable broth
chopped fresh tomato pieces
salt and pepper to taste

Chop the Romanesco into pieces, and be sure to save some of those cool fractal triangles for your soup garnish. Chop your onions and add them to your pot in a drizzle of olive oil. Lightly brown onion pieces.

Add Romanesco pieces and stir through. Add veggie broth and simmer covered for 20 minutes or until all is tender.

Once tender let the vegetables cool for about 10 minutes.

Then add all of the vegetable mixture to blender and mix till silky smooth.

Add Himalayan or Celtic salt, and cracked pepper, to taste.

Pour the soup into a bowl or a cup as needed, adding a sprinkle of tomato pieces and some Romanesco pyramids for presentation. The taste of this soup is very light. The fresh chopped tomato adds a bright complimentary flavor, and the raw Romanesco pieces add a nice crunch. Rich in vitamin C, and K, it looks colorful, and tastes wonderful! Enjoy!

Making Food Fun!!!

I just found this cool book called "Funny Food" filled with 365 creative ideas for making kid's food plates fun! I think it is simply wonderful. Created by Bill Wurtzel, and his wife Claire, to help inspire you to get downright silly! Making the food look this way actually works at getting kids to eat their food too. You know, you could even make these dishes to surprise your spouse in the morning, just like Bill has been doing to his wife for 50 years! You see 'Fun Food' is not just for kids! So now it is your turn to spread food love, and lighten up the morning rush mood at your home. Need some super-dooper ideas? Well just check out the video above about the book by Bill and Clair Wurtzel, which would make a fun gift for a mom, dad, or you! Be sure to go to their website for more delicious giggles.

Another awesome way to have the kids "play" with their food is to get these fabulous 'Food Face' plates made by the ultra-silly company Fred and Friends. (The makers of the Mustache pacifier called Chill Baby!) I had already bought 'Food Face' to give the gift of food creativity to my 3 year old artist granddaughter, but I learned today that I will just have to buy Ms. Food Face too. The original male plate will go to my grandson, and the lady face will go to my granddaughter. Yes, these wild well made plates would make great Holiday presents this year for the grandchildren...or ....moi! Well really...think about it, wouldn't you like to use this plate too? So whenever my little darlings come to eat their organic peas and carrots at grandma's house, they can have some yummy fun, and play with their food! That is if I don't keep these plates for myself!

So there you go! You got two holiday food ideas for gift giving to your best friend, the kids in your life...or you! Your mission... keep 'em laughing while you feed them healthy foods! Oh the sneaky cheeky devils that we are! Wink! Wink!
